Osteoporosis classified as Primary and secondary. Primary cause is unknown - may be senile or postmenopausal and Secondary cause associated with any cause like malnutrition, scurvy, thyrotoxicosis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, Cushing syndrome, gonadal insufficiency, chronic renal disease, drug induced, disuse due to any cause. The Risk factor are Genetic, age, racial, sex factor, Low subcutaneous fat, low weight, Hormone-Premature menopause, diabetes mellitus, hyperparathyroidism, hyperthyroidism, hypogonadism, Low Calcium intake, Life style as cigarette smoking, alcohol abuse, sedentary life, Use of drugs like, anticonvulsants, cytotoxic, drugs, heparin.
