Polytrauma has been defined as simultaneous injury of different regions of the body, while one or the combination of these injuries is life threatening. The basic principles for the treatment of polytraumatized patients is early and simultaneous assessment and resuscitation, in order to establish the priorities for life-saving management and further treatment. This treatment starts at the accident scene and is continued during the transportation and resumed under hospital conditions.
